Learnit Lego Workshop
Junior and Senior Infant pupils made an ice hockey player using building instructions. When they turned the handle on the ice hockey player’s back, it’s arm swung freely.
First and Second Class children observe and analyse lego models on the laptops.
Third and Fourth Class children worked in pairs to assemble their lego alligators before programming them to carry out specific tasks.
Fifth and Sixth Class worked collaboratively to create and program their roots to navigate through a maze.
On Thursday 28th of November 2019 two instructors from Learn it Lego came to our school for a Lego Workshop. Firstly, Fergal told us about the different types of Lego and the different things we can make with them. Then Fergal gave us some clues and we had to guess what animal we were going to make. One girl guessed correctly that we were going to make an alligator.
Next, we went over to the laptops with our partners and we watched a video. We clicked on the alligator symbol and the first instruction appeared.
Afterwards one person from each pair went over to a table where all the Lego pieces were in boxes, while the other person waited at the laptop. We took turns choosing the correct pieces to complete the alligator. We followed the instructions step by step on the screen to make the alligator.
Finally, we attached a cable from the Lego alligator to the laptop and we used different codes to make the alligator do different things, such as open and close its mouth. We coded it to make different noises. We had lots of fun!
