On the 23rd of June, the pupils of RUSHEEN N.S. from 3rd to 6th classes went to Cobh for a school tour. When we arrived in Cobh, the first thing we did was to go on a tour of the outside of Cobh Cathedral. Next we went into the crypt under Cobh Cathedral which held the bodies of six past Bishops. There was a spooky atmosphere around the crypt. Soon after we went down into the streets of Cobh to see the Lusitania Monument, which was built in the 1930’s. Then we saw the inside of St. Coleman’s Cathedral. It was beautiful. Next we hopped on the bus again and went to the Lusitania graveyard. Then we stopped for a bite of lunch. After our lunch we went on the boat to go to Spike Island. The boat was very good. We arrived on Spike Island and met our tour guide, Pat. We saw the house where little Nelly of God was born. Then we saw the prison cell of John Mitchell. It was very small and confined. We saw the six-inch gun. It was massive. After this we went to a modern cell. It was a lot more comfortable that John Mithelle’s cell. Then we headed back to Cobh and went to the Commodore Hotel. It was very tasty. At the end of the day we went shopping and then we went home. It was a day full of fun.
