We first heard about the Irish Aid Awards when our teacher, Master Coakley, brought in some magazine about it. We read about Ailesi Daka, a girl living in Zambia. We made mini projects about the countries of Africa and then big projects in groups. We were overjoyed when one of the projects got through! We had to pick out three people to represent the school. Adrianne Lynch, Mary O’Leary and I were chosen.
When we arrived at the Triskel Arts Centre we were so excited. There were refreshments and we got to look at the other great projects. We went to the stage and they took pictures of us.
Finally we went to the reserved seats and watched as Evelyn Grant took to the stage with African music in the background! She was from Lyric FM. She told us how great our projects were and the respect we showed for Africa was great too. She said when you learn something you are to spread it and not keep it locked up. Finally, they gave every school a plaque and then they said who got through. Unfortunately we didn’t get through but we didn’t mind too much. We had enough inspiration for next year.
