Following tradition, Rusheen P.A. hosted the annual First Holy Communion Party in Aghinagh GAA Hall. Thankfully the sun shone for the day, only spoilt by one shower, which didn’t dampen spirits.
This year, three children received First Holy Communion, Sarah Hinchion, Aoife Shannon and Liam O’Driscoll and they and their families were treated to sandwiches, cakes and the cup of tea and some other treats, after the Communion ceremony.
The school children involved in the ceremony were also treated at the Hall as were the school staff, past and present, priests; Fr. Joe O’ Mahony and Fr. John Keane, and organ players: Michelle O’Callaghan and Ava Kelleher.
A beautiful cake, embellished with the children’s names and a picture of the school was well admired on the day and no doubt was fully sampled by all, in school, the following Monday!
Fr. Joe thanked all for their preparation and involvement whether it was in school, in the church or at the hall, for making the Communion such a beautiful event. Gerard Coakley added to this and thanked the GAA for the use of the hall.
With grateful appreciation expressed for the cuppa, families moved on for further celebrations, those of us remaining, finished the sandwiches and home baking with a cup of tea and a bit of banter…all part of the enjoyment of the day!
Much work was done in preparation for this event and hosting it. Setting up the hall on the Friday night: drawing ware from the school, ironing cloths, laying tables. Baking and making sandwiches, volunteering on the Saturday for the catering, clean-up and boxing ware for return to the school. It would not have been a success without your help and sincere thanks to those of you who contributed.
