Last week was engineering week and classes did many projects. Junior, Senior, First and Second Class made parachutes using plastic, newspaper, crepe paper, strings and small toy people. Third and Fourth Class made rockets using foam, card, elastic bands and tape and used hurleys to fire them. Finally fifth and sixth class made Arcemedés Screws (water pumps) using silicone tubes, clear piping and P.V.C. tape. We used a bowl of coloured water and twisted the screw in the water then the water went up the screw defying gravity. The classes did many other things for engineering week as well including using the Engineers Week classroom pack. Fifth and Sixth Class read about modern engineering marvels in the Primary Planet Magazine.
