Rusheen N.S. took a team of athletes comprising of 16 boys and 14 girls to the Cork Primary School Sports held in Páirc Ui Chaoimh on Friday, May 13th.
The boys were first to run and got off to a great start when Shane Corkery came 3rd in the Under 13 Sprint. This was followed by a winners medal for Micheál Coakley in the Under 12 Category. Con Buckley came 2nd in the Under 10 race and all our other athletes in the boys category acquitted themselves well in their respective races.
The Girls team ran in the afternoon and Marion Coakley got them off to a good start with a 2nd place in the Under 13 Sprint. This was followed with victories by Niamh Looney and Sarah Kelleher in the Under 12 and Under 10 sprints respectively and Shona White also managed to win 2nd place in the Under 9 sprint. All other athletes performed with distinction on the day, enabling the Rusheen girls to win the all-round cup, The Corn Cionn tSaile, as the best girls school in their section. Following this our relay team of Marion Coakley, Niamh Looney, Caoimhe Cotter and Ellen Lucey stormed to victory in the relay race to win the Ballyvolane Cup and thus complete a most successful day out for Rusheen National School.
