Bingo is a fun, sociable game which is popular the world over. It’s a great school fundraising event as it can be enjoyed by parents and children.
And so, on Thursday 27th February 2020 we held our annual Bingo Fundraiser in Aghinagh GAA Hall. We were lucky that the night was dry. With the help of our volunteer stewards managing the parking the hall began to fill from 7:30pm, despite whispers of the imminent arrival of the Covid 19 virus to Ireland.
When people had settled at their tables with pen in hand we handed over to our Bingo Caller Michael Creed. Michael is an excellent choice for this job as he is professional, authoritative but also good-natured and fun. He was eagerly assisted by the school children who were quick to point out any errors and you could tell he enjoyed the evening as much as they did!
The bingo books were provided by Clondrohid GAA and delivered in advance by Gary O’Brien, who also brought and set up the Bingo Equipment and Amplification. Without his support it is unlikely this event would proceed and, as usual, he did not let us down. As well as “checking the checks” he also helped with the raffles and even discretely helped with kitchen duties after the interval.
After a fast first half of bingo games people got to enjoy a chat and a cuppa during our interval where we offered complimentary refreshments. Of course there was a tuck shop for the children, and raffle tickets sold well for our general and kids raffles.
There were plenty of cash prizes on offer during the night with many parents and businesses sponsoring full houses prizes of €50 and full lines prizes of €20. We were delighted to have great raffle prizes up for grabs also.
The Jackpot prize of €150 was won by Gary O’Brien’s mother Helen who had accompanied Gary to the bingo. Will Wiseman scooped the first prize in the children’s raffle of a Family Pass to Crag Caves.
Sincere thanks to all who supported this event. To those who gave or secured sponsorship, to those who helped with setting up the hall beforehand, volunteered on the night and/or participated in the game, and to those who helped with the tidy up afterwards. Thanks also to the local businesses who got behind the event by means of sponsorship. We hope you can return their goodwill by supporting them.
The night was profitable as well as enjoyable and the money raised will be used for the benefit of all the children at Rusheen N.S.
