First Holy Communion

Our second-class pupils received their First Holy Communion on Saturday May the 7th. We were blessed with gorgeous weather on the day and the ceremony was beautiful. Thank you to everyone who helped especially Fr. Joe and Fr. Kelleher who celebrated the lovely mass. The standout art which lit up the church is testament to the hard work of our SNA Jessie who helped the pupils in the run up to their big day. Thank you to organist Ava, our singer Sarah, thank you to Ina who prepared perfect mass booklets. Thank you to our sacristan Gill and those who helped to make the church look so beautiful with lovely flowers and lanterns. Thank you also to ministers of the word Tina and Siobhán. And to the pupils’ parents, a big mile buiochas to you all for helping to prepare prayers and songs at home. And finally, a massive thank you must go to Mr. Coakley who assisted with gifts on the day as well as Mr. Twomey, Miss Coakley, Miss Nagle and Miss Crowley who are always so supportive in school. The twelve Communicants did themselves, their families, and their teacher Miss Ambrose proud on the day singing the psalm, reading prayers of the faithful and bringing a scrapbook, a ball and bread and wine to the altar. They also sang four hymns throughout the mass and did the actions very graciously to the Our Father. A lovely celebration was held in the GAA hall after the ceremony courtesy of our wonderful Parents Association. We were treated to a range of tasty cakes and tea. It was lovely to have this again after missing out in the last two years. There was a lovely atmosphere and people were able to sit and chat and celebrate the special day. Thank you to the Parents Association for going above and beyond and having a lovely Communion cake which was devoured in school on the following Monday. A great weekend was had by all.
